Umweltphilosophie, Naturschutz und philosophische Aspekte der Nachhaltigkeit (Course A and B)

In the wake of several mid-20th century publications, such as Aldo Leopold's "A Sand County Almanac" (1949) and Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" (1962), the question of how humans should treat nature and our environment has finally become a topic of discussion for philosophers and natural scientists. Within philosophy, it is environmental philosophy and environmental ethics that deal with this complex of issues. Within the natural sciences, conservation biology, among others, has been dealing with this topic for several decades as an independent biological discipline. In the political and public debate, this topic is often discussed under the term sustainability.
